A few years back, Consumer Reports said that the Sears Kenmore Vacuum was the best. Based on that review, we purchased the Kenmore Vaccum upright. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!

Now that it appears to be dying, we are looking at the Dyson Uprights.

Does anyone have any opinions? Good? Bad?

TIA

Vicki

I have the Dyson 'animal' and just love it! You'd be amazed (and disgusted) with the amount of dirt and fur it picks up (2 cats). In fact, if you get one, vacuum with your old vacuum. Then go back over it with the Dyson...it's crazy how much stuff your old vacuum will leave behind!! It's also super-easy to dump out the canister, but I will admit it's not super-great for hardwood or stairs (the attachment part is kind annoying).

Smile Dyson Vacuum

I love the Dyson! We have 2 Shelties so we are always using the vacuum - it really picks up the dirt. I find it easy to use!

I have a Dyson Allergy & Asthma (DC17, I think) which I purchased a year ago based on feedback of a similar thread and I could not be more pleased with it! It stays out and plugged in because I use it that much. It is a breeze to empty and gives a nice sense of satisfaction watching the canister fill with the dust, dog hair, etc. that WAS in my house. Occasionally I will feed my Dyson a cotton ball that has been sprayed with essential oils - I personally like spearmint. This leaves the room smelling fresh and clean without being overpowering.

Same. (2 doggies here).

We had a regular Dyson and died after a year but we replaced it with this "animal" version and no problems for two years now.

Did you use the 5 year warranty? I have wondered how well they honor it.

The warranty works, at around 2 years, my start button on my Dyson Slim wouldn't stay down, so the vacuum wouldn't work unless I held the button down. Called the 800 number, they said no problem its a 5 year warranty. Gave me a number to a guy, said that they would send the paper work to them so they know I was going to call. I called the next day (as it was a sunday when I called dyson), brought the vacuum into the little store, the next day it was fixed.

If you buy a Dyson, and have a Bed Bath & Beyond around, you can use the 20% off coupon on it. I saved about $100 using that coupon for the Dyson.
