We are a family with three kids (ages 10-15), relocating this summer from a small town in Indiana (population less than 15,000 and takes an hour to get to any larger city) to Shreveport area. My husband's job will be close to the airport, but I am unable to find good information on neighborhoods in that area. Safety is the biggest concern for us. We have never had to deal with much crime or violence at all. We are okay with living in Shreveport as long as we are in a safe area and the next block over isn't full of gangs or crime. LOL. We are also okay with living out of town or in another town nearby as long as commute is less than 30-40 mins. House price range for us is less than $200k. Most of our home search will have to be online for now, so it makes things a little more complicated. Any advice or areas we should look at? Any websites that would be more helpful?

Check out Stonewall, La which is south of Shreveport in DeSoto parish (county). It is not terribly far from the airport and is accessible to I-49 and all of SE and SW Shreveport. Its main area runs along US 171 and has good schools in the area. The west part of Shreveport itself is hit and miss with the crime, so I wouldn't focus on that area. The school situation is not the best either, so I would check out Stonewall.

Hdwell's advice is sound. Definitely do NOT live anywhere near the airport - within a probably 5-mile radius of the airport, actually. Queensborough is what that neighborhood is called. It's a large, old neighborhood and it is very high crime. Also, if you can afford to live on Cross Lake, which is a very pricey area to live in, you wouldn't be very far from the airport.
