I'm keeping sporadic track of this game online while at work.

Can anyone explain why 15 minutes were added to this game???

I guess when it is a tie after the regular two periods and a winner is needed, they add two 15min periods. And if after that it is still tied, they do some serious penalty kicking...

That was some lousy soccer. Some lousy officiating too. People getting mugged all over the field -- no call. Someone makes a legitimate play on the ball and it's a penalty kick. A player trips on his own feet and the opposing player three feet behind him gets a yellow card. WTF?

It was actually 30 minutes that was added. Once you're in the elimination rounds, that's what they do if regulation time ends in a tie.

What were you watching? Altidore was running around all game like he had weights in his shoes. Or, would you have replaced him with Buddle instead?

Long term, we have to get better defenders.

I thought the referee was fine. Got all the big decisions right.

USA lost for a number of reasons. First and foremost was a bad tactical decision to replace Edu with Clark. That cost us a goal early on. It was noticeable that the USA played much better after Edu came on.

Secondly, the USA only really played well in the second half. We had players on the bench, like Beasley, who have the pace and technical ability to give defenses a problem. But we didn't use them and we didn't really use the width of the field to our advantage. Ghana did.

But, overall, I thought both teams were fairly evenly matched. As a result, we needed one of our players top do something special and none did. That was reserved for the Ghana second goal.
