Despite an encouraging first half of the year for SC with some great job announcements, keeping the momentum going isn't looking promising in the Palmetto State, according to a state economist. The recent job announcements haven't offset the job losses we don't hear about by small businesses, the backbone of the state's economy.

Columbia Regional Business Report | Columbia, SC

In the past year Charleston has managed to slightly add to its labor force, while Columbia's has dropped by 4,600 and Greenville's by 7,200. Charleston, Columbia and Greenville's unemployment rates rose in June. Charleston and Columbia's are at 9.4, Greenville's at 9.9.

On a positive note, SC fell from 6th worst to 7th worst in unemployment.
