offered a job in Winnsboro
My husband was recently offered a job in Winnsboro. We now live in PA. If I were to consider moving, I would want to live in an area within an hour's drive that would be semirural with a safe neighborhood. We would be looking at houses between 100 and 150 thousand or to rent at first. I also teach so I would be looking for a position in the near future. Can anyone tell me the realistic side of this area?

Winnsboro is a small town a few miles outside of Columbia, so you can definitely find a semirural neighborhood in the area. I wouldn't imagine that you'd have any trouble with your price range.

. . . of what? I'm going to guess you meant within an hour's drive of a city. Winnsboro is well within an hour's drive of Columbia. It's also within an hour's drive of Charlotte.
I've only been to Winnsboro once a long time ago. It was more rural than semi-rural at the time, but I'll bet it's grown up a lot since. I'll also bet you can buy a nice house in your price range. (I wish I were making better than an educated guess).

Thanks for the insight! I am not really considering Winnsboro itself. There really seems to be nothing there. I want a place that has activities for my children. I was considering Irmo or Lexington but I have read negative things about them online. I would like a nice neighborhood and a good school. I would somewhat of a yard, too. I want my children to have nice things but not to live in an area where they are constantly compared for their material wealth. I want where I live but employment I guess.

What about Newberry? There's a small college there and the Opera House presents surprisingly high quality fare. It's maybe 40 miles down SC 34 from Winnsboro.

I think Newberry and Camden are pretty good choices.

decided to stay
Thank you for the reply. Actually, the decision not to take the job was a real blessing. The company I was to work for is going under. That would have been so hard for our family!
