I have been engaged about a job in Clemson, SC. I am a Black professional. I have never lived in the South but I have visited. I have also vacationed in Myrtle beach. My question is, What is the most culturally diverse area in this region? It may seem like an odd question to some but to me it is an important question. I get along with everyone and I try not to be judgmental. I don't want to move into a crime ridden area and neither do I wish to move into an area that is not accepting of others. Thanks in advance.

The larger Greenville area, which is about 30 miles east of Clemson, has definitely become more diverse over the years, with a lot of cultural opportunities. I think you would be pleasantly surprised by what you find there.

On an even larger scale, the Atlanta area, which is about a 1.5-2 hour drive from Clemson, is certainly one of the more diverse regions in the country.

Yes, the general answer is Greenville - however, this is a 35 minute drive to Clemson. And (as you may already know) the city of Clemson, SC, home to Clemson University, has students/staff/professors from all over the country.

Please realize that the "South" is not the stereotypical image one gets from "the net" and Hollywood movies/television. Most areas are accepting of persons of all types and (yikes) even a few areas are "progressive". Gosh, even Clemson, SC is one of the few cities in the Upstate that has a smoking ban.

Congratulations on your job offer (especially in this economy). Clemson is a fantastic, safe, family-friendly area with access to some of the most amazing lakes on the East Coast (Hartwell, Keowee, and Jocassee). Additionally, access to the mountains of NC (and SC) is quite easy.

Your questions are more suited for the Greenville-Spartanburg sub-forum and I suggest the mod move this thread.
