Hello to all you South Carolina folks!

My family and I are Floridians and are ready to kiss Florida GOODBYE! We wanted your opinion on where is the best place to relocate with a 10-yr-old. We currently live on a ranch and miss the city life. It takes us 45 minutes to get to work which is not ideal. We are tired of living so far out and having to drive for a very long time just to go to the grocery store. We thought living on a ranch would be ideal for raising adoptive children but it's a lot of hard work with the land and all and we want to downsize and basically simplify our lives. My husband and I would like to be in a place where we could easily find jobs, surround ourselves with nice friendly neighbors (accepting to newcomers), have our 10-yr-old attend a good school and find a safe environment with low crime. We miss the city life but don't want to be smack in the middle of tourists either. We were thinking of somewhere with a mountain view, in the northern part of SC. I lived in Augusta, Ga for 8 years and visited Charleston several times and know I'm not interested in that area. We are looking to buy a condo. We are tired of living in a city where there are a million folks in it (Jacksonville, FL), the heat and humidity, the high property taxes and the hurricane seasons! So, if there's anyone out there that would like to give us their opinion we would be truly grateful. Have a wonderful day and thank you very much for reading/responding to our thread.

The Greenville area sounds like it would be a great place for you to begin your search. It's just about the right size, big enough to have most big city amenities (decent shopping, very good restaurants, good hospital) without the big city hassles. Greer, Simpsonville, and Powdersville areas (all within 15-20 miles of downtown Greenville) have great schools and mountain views. Typical suburban home lots are about 1/3 to 1/2 acre. And it's not a touristy area by any means. Property taxes are low, but SC does have a state income tax which Florida does not. Have a job lined up before you move...
