Why is this such a big deal? I know it's to do with budget cuts but does closing a tower involve laying people off from their jobs? I haven't gone through the entire list but it doesn't appear to affect major airports.

I was reading that TTN which is in Trenton NJ tower is closed. TTN has only one Airline.. Frontier with service to New Orleans and several South Florida cities. Apparently, the closing of TTN tower is not impacting service at TTN...so it seems like commercial carriers do take off an land without a tower..though certainly not ideal. So, it doesnt seem like the tower closures are having any major impact on air service in most cities.....
