Yeah, that's sad. We're losing the one in Pawleys to Bi-Lo. With the current run-down Bi-Lo store about 1/2 mile away, there's no doubt we'll end up with layoffs and one more tired old worn-out shopping center with no meaningful client base. I'll miss the Pig. They were our source for a broad selection of Lowcountry and other regional specialty items. One of the few remaining pieces of the South in Pawleys Island just bit the dust...
Yeah, but at least Bi-Lo maybe cheaper. The Pig's prices were always very high.
I doubt it. Prices are high anywhere you have a monopoly on the market. The Pig on Edisto was the only grocery store for 25 miles. The next closest grocery store is the Pig in Hollywood. I doubt Bi-Lo is going to lower any prices. Why would/should they?
I wonder how Piggly Wiggly will keep its other Greenwood store and Ware Shoals, Ninety Six and Saluda stores open. Those stores are very small and limited to serve their communities.

I can see Kroger acquiring Bi-Lo Holdings soon.
Bi-Lo Holdings will need to streamline its banner after the acquisition of Harvey's, Reid's and Sweetbay are finalized. I can see Harvey's remaining, but Sweetbay will change to Winn Dixie and Reid's will close to prevent duopolies with Bi-Lo.

I am not anywhere near the Pig stores that are being sold to Bi-Lo but Bi-Lo is by far the highest price on many items I buy in my area. One item (I'm not going to disclose what it is) is 4.99 at Bi-Lo, 3.99 at Publix and 2.68 at Walmart. That is disgraceful!
