Anyone watch the new CBS lawyer drama "Reckless"? Charleston and Greenville got attention, as well as Mount Pleasant. It was filmed in downtown Charleston and Mount Pleasant. And in episode 1, the thief is said to be travelling to Greenville to sell stolen diamonds. The city looks beautiful, as usual, but it does a cool job of showing a little bit of the shady, sinful side of Charleston.
It kinda smears cops really bad, in particular the "fictional" Charleston Police Department. But, if you can look past that, its not a bad show.
I watched it. The footage was nice. The story line and acting were weak, IMO. The writers must have picked up on the attitude that Columbia as anything other than a place where politicians make bad laws doesn't exist, otherwise there was no need to say the thief went all the way to Greenville. Maybe in the next episode someone will mention that someone went to Columbia to see the ballet.
The past week, a lot of criticism for the show locally. All the inaccuracies. One part was how they had big fans in all the court rooms, trying to portray the heat and humidity, and making it look like we don't have air conditioning down here. When in fact, the county courthouse on Broad Street is a very big, modern building. And the scene with the shady local leaders, chewing cigars (like they're in Texas) and chowing down on fresh crawfish in the office (this isn't Louisiana either).
But the cast were all Tweeting this week about how realistic the show is.
Wow. I don't see a Season 2. Or maybe even the conclusion of this season.
