My big concern would be like, funny looks at restaurants and being kicked out of places or not even being allowed in. As long as Whatever racism is there is 'kept under the hood' from whomever, I'm ok with that. I just don't want people starting trouble. My family and I keep to ourselves for the most part anyway. We just want quiet neighbors and to be left alone for the most.
It always amazes me that people are this stereotypical of the south. There are different races all over South Carolina with Hispanic being one of the biggest. Are there some flags in rural areas? Yes. But when is the last time a flag has hung anyone? I'm black, was married to a white woman, and have 2 biracial teens. We've had no problems. Been in the south my whole life and love it. The stereotype of everything north being city and everything south being country I've never liked either. Get over the stereotype and make a visit.
I can transfer easily with my company, a large cellular phone provider. They have stores pretty much everywhere and I can transfer almost any time.
Working for a cellular phone provider, relocating to Charleston or Myrtle Beach will be good timing when overlay area code 854 is effective later this year.

I think what the southerners on the thread are not appreciating is that, we have a fair number of confederate flag waving folks up here in the north, mostly in rural/backwards areas with little diversity. In virtually all cases, it is being used as a symbol in support of racism.
What the northerners are not appreciating is that, in the south, the confederate flag is often displayed for more noble reasons, like southern pride. So, coming from the north, we've developed an aversion to that flag that we have to unlearn.

Never looked at that way. Interesting. Confederate flag shouldn't automatically mean racism. As a black man it doesn't bother me.
Two cents from someone who spent several years in the Northeast -- I encountered far, far more racism from people living in New York and Pennsylvania than I ever have living in the South. While the South tends to be more of a black and white thing, racism and bigotry is spread across many more cultures and groups in the Northeast.
Ok, decided on murrells inlet....any word how it is?
