Hubbie and I are in our early 60's. We will be selling our farm and thinking of moving south but not sure where. We will be going to Florida in July and thought that maybe we can also hit a few places in SC.

We want a town or city that has an active and attractive main Street, not a place built around malls and shopping centers. But there must be stores (we live in the boonies now and traveling 40 miles round trip to a supermarket is getting old) and shopping and things to do/ events/ fairs/ etc. An active library system (we read a lot and get movies)

We want a safe place because both of us have health problems. I limp and don't want a place where I feel I have a target on my back. LOL.

Near hospitals and good medical care.

Friendly ppl.

Our housing budget is about $200K and under. We won't be work, although Hubbie may look for a job to "keep busy."

Are we asking for too much? Thanks.

Somewhere in the Greenville, SC area sounds like what you need.

Aiken/North Augusta might be a good fit for you.

Greenville has a great tree lined Main Street and downtown that routinely makes top 10 lists in the country. There is a huge waterfall right on the Main Street with a massive pedestrian bridge over it.

There are a lot of things to do, festivals, etc downtown and the Blue Ridge Mountains are nearby.

The hospitals are great here, and numerous libraries all over the metro. Greenville has the largest mall in the state, and a ton of restaurants and shopping.

You could also look at Anderson SC if you prefer a small city. It has a decent downtown for a city its size. It is about 25 minutes from Greenville on Lake Hartwell.

I second the suggestion of Aiken; it has a very quaint, attractive downtown area and is just minutes from Augusta, GA which is home to a medical university and a sizable collection of healthcare facilities.
