Odd that the state is going to continue to give a university that lost its accreditation and has had terrible financial management more tax revenue even after forgiving a 12 million dollar loan to the university. The university should be forced to become a private or go out of business.
'The SACS board of trustees will decide on June 15 to either restore the institution to full accreditation or remove its accreditation, which would likely force the school to close. S.C. State has been on probation with the association for two years.

a university that is not fully accredited is not accredited. partial accreditation means nothing.
their accreditation was suspended and they are being given an opportunity to gain it back.
and the school needed a 12 million loan forgiven to have realistic shot at getting the accreditation back, as the article indicates.
the issue is the school has been horribly mismanaged and it shouldn't be bailed out with millions of dollars in tax revenue. Even if it does still have its accreditation, that does not mean it should have it. If it was a private university, it would have gone out of business a long time ago.

You can't remove something if it isn't there to begin with.
i note neither one of you have talked about the SCSU's 12 mil debt write off by our state which is the real topic of this thread. that is a pile of taxpayer money to give to one university, and one that is not even ranked. I don't see how that is fair to other the other public universities in SC.
and i want to remind you that you said that there are a bunch of big box stores downtown Gville since you want to nitpick me on this. there are no big box stores downtown.
you also said people who go to CU don't ever leave the upstate and don't like rest of the state but like 45 percent of the students and alumni are from the midlands and low country. it is the second largest public university in the state and serves the entire state, it is not a community college serving only people in Pickens county.
i think this is why you are on this thread trying to do gotcha because i pointed these things out. m1a1mg has a similar motivation.
you don't need to restore full accredation if you are accredited. how does a partial accreditation mean anything. No college wants to be on probation and SCSU enrollment has cratered with this.
why would enrollment crater if they still are fully accredited. if we stipulate SCSU is still accredidate, they don't deserve to be. That makes this even worse.

the article states that if they had not received the 12 mil debt writeoff by the state, they would not be likely to restore their accreditation this summer and the college would have to close. that is an incredible amount of debt to be written off and SC taxpayers are footing the bill. imagine if we could have used that 12 mil on roads or schools.

shut it down . Throwing more money at it is crazy . It is sc though too small for a republic too large for an insane asylum
I like the idea of keeping SCSU open, but do acknowledge that it's becoming an expensive proposition. Even for fiscally conservative people, the idea of funding education is a good one. Education is a common good issue and improves the state as a whole. And, in reality, $12 mil seems like a lot of money, the state as a whole spends 23% of the $21 Billion budget on higher education. So, the $12 million is a drop in the bucket.
SCSU has taken very strong action to fix their spending issues. And, if they can't reign in expenses, and start functioning within a budget, then it may be time to shut the school down.
Finally, they are accredited or they are not. Currently, they are accredited. This is not due to anything the school has done with regard to education, but an inability to raise enough money.
they aren't accredited. if a school is not fully accredited and needs to go before a board to restore it, it can't say it is accredited. No college wants to be on probaton and SCSU is the only one that is in SC and probably the entire southeast.
12 mil is not a drop in the bucket. that is an amazing assertion. they've also received another 6 mil loan that much will probabably be written off as well. on top of that, they are receiving money from the state that isn't a loan every year.
SCSU only has about 2700 students. That is less than Furman.

SCSU is on probation. They are still fully accredited but have been warned that they could lose their accreditation if they don't improve their financial performance. That you continue to make an assertion, that any reasonable person knows isn't true, seems very silly.
You, once again, seem to have difficulty with telling the difference between opinion and fact. $12 M out of $901 M is a drop in the bucket to me. Again, a difference of opinion.
The number of students isn't the reason why people want SCSU to stay open.
