Clemson among 'Best Places to Retire'

Clemson, Charleston, and Bluffton make Forbe's top 25 places to retire list. Not too surprised here but still noteworthy to mention.

Surprised Myrtle didn't make the list. It's probably the number one retirement destination in the state.

It could be that the area, and not just MB, are getting the retirees.

I agree I think the areas around MB are retiree destinations but MB proper not as much.

Clemson?! I guess retirees i.e. Baby Boomers enjoy living close to major universities which can be a plus for the arts and entertainment. I am sure the outdoor environment is also appealing there. Not everyone wants to go to FLA anymore I guess

I recall sumter used to rank high for a city of its size in Southern Living Magazine. Then I was told that they bought that ranking in exchange for Ad space in the magazine .....smh

True, but that could also be said about the other cities that made the list. I'd bet other places in Beaufort and Jasper counties are getting more retirees than Bluffton, for example.

I should probably read the methodology. If crime is a criterium, then I know that would probably knock MB out of the running.

Clemson / Seneca has been a popular retiree area for decades due to the lakes and near Blue ridge.

I was going to say the same thing. Crime has been increasing in recent years in Myrtle Beach.

Sometimes these rankings are meaningful , when based on good data analysis.

I'm not sure exactly what this guy's methodology was.

Dang. I've always wanted to retire back to Clemson since I graduated there 35 years ago. Guess now that I'm finally getting retirement in sight, everyone else is going to discover the place and ruin it.
