I also agree with those two, especially Beaufort, very beautiful. Georgetown is nice too, smaller, and a big chunk of main street burned a few years ago; I hated to see that!
I'd also give a vote for Abbeville. Very small, but beautiful downtown and surrounding neighborhoods.
Those were pretty much all major South Carolina cities and towns, and in major metro areas in the state. I don't understand what he means by underrated, and underrated by who. I never got that impression and especially Myrtle Beach. I thought he was going to mention places I haven't or hardly heard of.
Had a chance to drive thru Conway SC on the way to MB. I was impressed. Looks like a thriving, small town.
Yes.. Conway has come long way.. It is probably the "real city" in Horry County as it is the County Seat and home to the Technical College and Coastal Carolina..
A couple of nice towns are Hartsville, Darlington, and Bishopville.. in terms of having nice intact (as opposed to demolished) downtowns. Bishopville's downtown is probably struggling the most, but that is because it is in Lee County
How do you feel about Florence all these years later?
Florence has come a long way, from its downtown winning the Mainstreet Downtown reward. To other areas of the city where new subdivisions are popping up and businesses like Bucees and plants like AESC are coming to town. In which AESC happens to be the biggest economic development project ever in Northeastern SC. Not only those two specific developments in the past few years but the other businesses coming to the area the past few years. Florence is on the move and you can feel that energy throughout the region.

Florence has really done a 180 and continues to make improvements. I was visiting family and happen to go downtown during a festival.. The streets were crowded long after the event and people drifted into the various downtown restaurants and the rooftop bar at Town Hall. All good stuff cant wait until more residential happens downtown and the third hotel. It will certainly add more foot traffic.
I still think the city needs a nice downtown park for events and for passive recreation. Columbia is reviving Finlay Park and we have all seen whats in Greenville and Spartanburg of course the Battery in Charleston. I signature downtown park would be great.. maybe on NB Baroody Street that loops around from Dargan to Evans (parking lot). Timrod is fine, but just too far away from downtown
