Hello, I could use some advice. I have lived on the NC Outer Banks for almost 30 yrs. I love being near the water, but the "paving paradise" and the ever-growing tourist population are just too much for me anymore.
I am beginning my search for a lakefront property with a small town feel. I want to go south, I need Warm! My budget is around $150,000 to 175,000. Must have a view and a true waterfront. I've looked in SC, but can't pinpoint a region to look for a home. I haven't specifically targeted any state. I'm trying to choose a lake area to search for a home. Any suggestions?

Pick a lake you want to live on, search the towns around that lake on their real estate websites. Your budget isn't unreasonable and should be doable. Are you wanting to fish? Just want a view? Would this be your full-time residence? I would start with a list of what you're wanting to accomplish in your move and then start your research with a goal in mind.

The west side of Lake Murray, Lake Monticello, Lake Wateree, and many areas around Lake Marion will give you what you're asking for. Only downside to Lake Monticello is a nuclear plants sits at the end, but I promise you it'll keep home prices down and give you a very small town and country feel with that sitting there.
I believe that's Lake Marion. I wasn't really paying attention when I pulled the listing up, just was looking a photos and whatnot. If it were Lake Moultrie, there would be a whole lot more trees in the water.
