Could you give me some information on the elem. schools. Would you say it's a nice place to raise a family. Also, how are the jobs? Thank you.

Aiken is a great place to live.

If you need to work you either need to know someone or you will most likely have to go to Augusta to find a job. Augusta is only 20 miles away

There are plenty of things to do here, if your family enjoys the outdoors. I have been to more festivals since I have been here than I think I have been to in the whole rest of my life. I have also been hiking, canoeing, seen historical places, and hung out at the water park.

Sorry, I don't have kids so I can't help with the schools.

I will sadly miss Aiken.

Aiken has several excellent elementary schools. My wife teaches at a National Blue Ribbon school that's a finalist for a state award this year. And her school isn't alone in providing a quality education. You can PM me if you have a specific question about a school.

This is about the laziest softball one could toss out. Smack! YES and YES!

About half of the special ed teachers in the school in which I teach are from Romania. And we're still short at least one. That should give you an idea of the need.

As for churches, Protestant Christian churches dominate, though the mainline churches are in decline as they are in other places. Roman Catholicism is well established here, too. There's also a synagogue and a small Unitarian/Universalist congregation in Aiken. I don't know where Muslims go -- maybe Augusta.
