I've seen some discussion of Aiken, but not much information about the job market or how to find rental homes. I've done internet searches, but only find homes for sale. My husband has accepted a position in the area. I'm a former elementary teacher, not looking to go back into the classroom. I'm currently an office manager. I am very sad to be moving away from my current home, so I need any good news that I can find. I also want to know what neighborhoods are recommended (quiet, but not too overbearing..haha) and safe. Looking to rent approximately up to $700 (townhome or house). Cat friendly place is a must. We're late 20s/early 30s..not party people, but used to having a lot of conveniences that I know we'll be having less of. Visited this weekend. Liked Augusta riverwalk..have read bad things about Augusta, much to my disappointment. It was fine when we were there..I wouldn't have guessed there were such problems. Is it really that bad? I live in Wilmington, NC. People say we have crime issues, but I feel very safe for the most part, and our streets are always filled with people, so you don't feel worried about being robbed on the streets like I've heard of happening in Augusta. What's the real scoop? Should we live in Aiken, North Augusta?? No children, yet, so schools aren't a concern.
The job market is going to be in Augusta. I lived in Aiken for 14 months and could not find a job. I sent out quite literally 100+ resumes, and had 2 interviews. Both interviews were for 20 hour a week $7/hr jobs, for which I was grossly over qualified.
North Augusta is pretty nice. You will have easier access to the Augusta job market from there.
Sadly, I do not. Neither my husband or myself was able to get a job. We sold our house 2/28 and are now back in miserable Florida.
