I may have the possibility of taking a job with BIA soon. I would be relocating from FL and I'm just trying to get an idia of the area I would be going to. I don't know much about it all so any help be greatly appreciated. What would be the nearest cities or towns to the reservation? Average price of rentals? I'm in the reserves are there any bases or VA centers in the area? And lastly my fiance is looking to start her Masters in Social Work are there any schools nearby that offer this program? Thanks in advance!

It is near Fort Thompson. Your choices for housing would be Chamberlain that would be nearest town. You are about 70 miles from Pierre. It is on the east side of the Missouri between Pierre and Chamberlain.

Thanks for the info. What apartment complexes are close by? Or am I better off looking for a house to rent?

Rent a house or look for an apartment in Chamberlain. Unless the tribe provides you with housing in Fort Thompson. Your options are severly limited.

I don't live in Chamberlain, but I have made the drive from Chamberlain to Crow Creek, and the road was really winding and hilly. Unless there's a more flat and straight route, I'm thinking I wouldn't enjoy that drive in the winter (I was looking to work there also). There is an Air Force base within a few hours, Ellsworth, and there's a VA in Sioux Falls and (I think) Sturgis(?), by the Black Hills. Crow Creek is right in the middle of the state, on the river, so the weather can be really windy but then again it can be beautiful.
Since you're coming from Florida I would HIGHLY recommend visiting this winter, especially to the Reservations. They all have something special about the areas, and they are all at least an hour from a larger town. Would be great to have you if it all works out

Excellant advice. I can't think of anything better to say.
