I really appreciate you all entertaining all of my questions thus far. My family and I are definitely excited to come out and visit this fall. I know that I tend to ask a lot of questions, but it's out of a desire to know and learn from people who really know the state. It's one thing to read about a place, and another entirely to talk to folks who actually live there So I just wanted to say thank you

In all of SD with an exception somewhat being Sioux Falls, you can walk down main street in any town and people walking towards you will say hi even though they haven't a clue who you are. We also still have "the wave" here. When driving down a rural road with your hand on the top of the steering wheel, simply extend your INDEX (careful about which finger) finger up and the person in the other vehicle approaching you will do the same.

It's these and other little things that have given me no inclination to want to move to other parts of the country.

I noticed the friendliness. Also saw it in other Midwestern states (Missouri, for instance).

You don't see it in FLA (my state)....you barely get eye contact or an acknowledgment. Maybe because it's too hot and people are miserable?

Buc, I think it's the sheer number of people in Florida. With 20 million people, I think they just get tired of looking at each other. South Dakota, on the other hand, has under a million...even though it's quite a bit larger. South Dakotans are so loosely packed that they just aren't sick of each other (yet).

This'll blow your mind: In South Dakota, there are 11 people per square mile. In Florida, there are 378 per square mile. Imagine living in New Jersey @ 1218 per square mile. You'd probably get a permanent repetitive stress injury if you acknowledged everyone you saw.

I am living in Thailand, looking for a good place to repatriate to in the future. 18 million people in Metro Bangkok, and it is amazingly friendly, especially for its density. I live about 400 miles north, in a agri/transport/education hub. Life is good here, I miss watching lots of college football. Are there a lot of Denver fans there? How about Nebraska? SD plays some pretty good ball.
