Someone talked me into signing up for an area freecycle a couple of weeks ago. Last weekend, there was something I was interested in. I got an e-mail saying that it was given to someone else, but there was a website that I could go to with lots of great stuff.
That's pretty much a scam e-mail, right? (Or spam, or fishing, or whatever you'd call it).
Here in Ohio (I know, I know... we're moving to SD in the spring though!) the Freecycle site has been great. I got rid of a few things I could not handle when we moved out of our home that we sold (for instance, a queen size bed... we were downsizing, and it was clean) so we put an ad on freecycle and just gave it away. A woman who just got her own apt and just found herself on her own came to get it and took it home. We were glad someone got use out of it. My daughter uses it a lot to put free things that are still good that someone else can possibly use, and has even found things on it that she needed. She gave away a box of clothes once (she's young, thin, and they were designer things) and just left it on the porch and the person who wanted it just came and picked it up one morning. So I guess it depends on if there are enough people who regularly have things they don't need ... or not. I have not found it to be a scam though. Leroy, we just made a trip to Lemmon a week and a half ago, I thought of you. :-) We couldnt stay long, but oh we wish we were THERE already!
Heh, funny you remember me for Lemmon. I'm in no way an expert on the area only having been there for the city summer celebration (Boss Cowman's) three times. But the great people we met there, and the fun we had left lasting memories. Did you check out the petrified wood park?
But I am pretty sure that e-mail I got was a not so honest one. If she had other stuff, she could have just posted it there, and not tried me to go to another site.
AH, you are right, that "bait and switch" game is a dead giveaway.
And yes I remember you for Lemmon because I think I remember you said your mom lived there... or maybe I just am remembering it wrong. Something about her chickens.
But yes we did see the petrified park, we were staying in the hotel just down the street from it. (We have the water turned off in our house for the winter and the pipes drained, so we had to use the hotel.)
Come to think of it, EVERYWHERE in that little town is "just down the street" from everywhere else in the town! Just right! :-)
Yep, I did mention my mom's chickens, though she wasn't from Lemmon. And your last sentence is spot on.
