How horrible for this man and so many others who suffer from this disease. I had a neighbor child wo had mild tourette's-just enough to make everybody dislike him and think he was a rude, anygry little boy. His mother tried to educate others but so many still thought he was just a bad kid.

Sad that anyone is bullied like this.

I highly recommend Brad Cohen's book: Front of the Class

I've known several people with Tourette's and the range of symptoms can be quite wide.

One of my first years of teaching I had a student who was profoundly mentally retarded. He was so delayed that he was unable to say "Mama" or other simple words. However, he was able to say the loudest, crudest, string of swear words that I have ever heard in my life. " You, m------ f-------, c--- s-------, a-- h---!!!!!" was one of his common outbursts. It was a credit to his middle school classmates that, after hearing his outbursts a few times, most of his regular ed & special ed peers just ignored the outbursts.

The human brain is amazing. He couldn't say "Mama" or "Daddy" but "wh---", "c---" and "b----" came out crystal clear.

In addition to facial tics he also would frequently headbang and pick up and throw chairs.

I don't understand where somebody so retarded could hear such words. Or a child.
I once went to a doctor who had such horrible tics I actually could not communicate with him. He worked mostly with the patients in my mother's assisted living. I'm sure older people never had any idea of what his problem was and I heard the home finally had to find somebody else because of so many complaints. Gotta give the man credit for getting through medical school with such a disability but I think he eventually left medicine because people were uncomfortable with him.

Why Does Tourette's Make People Curse Uncontrollably? | LifesLittleMysteries.com

Quote:
Despite the common misconception that Tourette's syndrome is defined by uncontrollable and socially inappropriate cursing, only 10 percent of Tourette's patients actually exhibit that symptom. Most have milder tics like rapid blinking , shoulder-shrugging and throat-clearing. Coprolalia, the involuntary utterance of obscenities, profanities and derogatory remarks, is an extreme example of a vocal tic experienced by some people with Tourette's.
Only about 10% of Tourette's patients exhibit coprolalia, but it tends to attract more attention than any other symptom.
