Oh, and I remember a guy who sold used (found?) hubcaps from his backyard in Hillyard. For a city like Spokane with its very rough streets and the need to change over from snow tires and back each year, and the resulting loss of wheelcovers and hubcaps, he was a rather prosperous small businessman.

Funny thing about places like Hillyard. Collectively, it looks like an eyesore. Individually, the people one meets there are often worth knowing -- or at least, more interesting than the gentry in more prosperous areas, hurrying from one "important" affair to another. Funny how that works.

Yeah, I am sure the same thing could be said about Detroitistan....I still would not move into an areas that sent me bad vibes........even if I MIGHT find a few decent folks.

Ok yew foos, I actually like Spokelanta quite a bit. I am seriously thinking of snapping up one of these cheapies that HUD has for sale.

The problem is Hillyardadelphia is where most, but not all of the cheapoes exist. Just what about this area is oh-so stinky.......tweakers, home invasions, uggo street walkers, noisy, lots of industrial zoning????? WHAT ABOUT FREYA ST....is that a terrible area is the H-yard??????

I am a hip-hop American.....I crave diversity!!!

Me and my crew:

Hey, I know that guy. He was on one of my garbage routes back when I lived there (about 16 years ago). Nice guy. He'd ask us to save any hubcaps we found and he'd give us sodas or coffee depending on the season.

As far a Hillyard goes it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Mostly blue collar types, with a high percentage of welfare recipients. There is a lot of history there too.

It's when you cross Market and enter Dogtown that you have to watch your back.

Personally, I think most of Spokane could be classified as dogtown.

Hardly a week goes by that some Spokane child or oldster isn't attacked and mutilated by a pit bull or some other vicious canine. Dogs infest this city!

I lived in what would probably be called a quiet neighborhood (Hamblen), and the racket from fenced-in psychotic mutts is raucous and incessant. Most people leave ther dogs outisde while they're at work, and they bark. And bark. And bark. All damn day. At the kids playing. At the mailman. At any sound anywhere which their moronic ears can pick up. Mostly, of course, they bark at the barking of other canines. It's like a behavioral skin rash, only aural. Of course, the owners are always mystified that little Princess or brave Butch would ever bark or disturb anyone. Why, he's so well-behaved when the family is around -- feeding him under the table and stroking his germy fur with their hands before cramming another greasy french fry into their maws.

Is it too much to ask for people to keep in mind that when they own a dog, the whole neighborhood shares in their precious pet's behavior? A barking and/or vicious dog is an intruson on the other people in your vicinity -- people who pay the same taxes, and have the same rights as you. And that includes the right to peace and quiet, safety for themselves and their children, and the need to be able to take a stroll in the neighborhood without having to worry about stepping into a pile of last night's partially digested Attaboy.

Dogtown. Spokane's new name?

Get one of those dog silencing units. It is basically a circuit that puts out a waveform that has a frequency above that of human hearing and shuts dogs up. I think it would be easy to build....that is what I will do if I EVER find myself living next to a yapper. The trick is to make the output very powerful....send it though a couple of amplifier stages.....then output through good sized speakers. Those units in the stores......probably too wimpy.

Any time you have a good sized city that is affordable....well, a good portion of those citizens are going to be dirtballs. Spokanistan is no different in that regard.....take the good with the bad.

Ok, you can Fedex them to me.

I am sure if I buy a house here I will end up next to some crackhead/methhead/drunk or some other dreck, no matter how hard I look......probably will also have 2-3 yappers.

But hey, take the good with the bad, if it was not for the 5 months of cra**y weather I would rate Spoke-Orleans about a 7 or 8.

I still doubt that the 3% Urban American population, as listed at various sites, is anywhere near accurate, suspect that number is way low. I cherish the diversity of all people so this is actually a good thing.

Look no farther. Head for Altamont / Liberty Park, my brother.
