Spokane Valley officer shoots dog that attacked him - Spokesman.com - Aug. 27, 2014

Lunging "pit bull" fatally shot by Coeur d

What the hell is going on with the police in this area?

I am a big supporter of the LEO community, and have posted many times on here defending the police in one instance or another.

But lately, I'm not sure what's going on here. Early July, a cop shoots a Lab that "lunged" at him, even though the dog never actually left the van he was in. And then today, a cop shoots a dog after the cop enters the property without authority and ignores the "Beware of Dog" signs.

I have never posted this before, and hope I never will again, but I am actually hoping that the officers in these cases will be held accountable for their unjustified actions.

PS: I don't know if this is just media-sensationalism or not, but I noticed that both of these articles mention that the cop in question thought that the dog was a Pit Bull, but it turned out to be a Lab in one instance and a Husky mix in the other. What is the point of mentioning this? Is it somehow okay to shoot a Pit Bull, but not okay to shoot a Lab or Husky who does the same thing?

Sorry, rant over.

In this most recent incident, the officer clearly ignored the "Beware of Dog" sign so he kind of asked to be attacked. The second one was in Cd'A, not Spokane - just clarifying that there are trigger happy police in other depts., not just Spokane. That one sure got everyone riled up though -- poor Arfy. Maybe police officers need better response training when it comes to dog situations.
There's far too much sensationalism in the media with targeted dog breeds, targeted race, etc. I rarely even watch the news but you still hear about things from other media sources.

Cd'A still counts as the "Spokane area". But I do agree that clearly something needs to be done as far as training on this issue.

Time for a "Paws Up, Don't Shoot" video to go viral.

Well, if someone trespasses on my property, I wouldn't plan on rolling over, and I would hope that my dog wouldn't either.

This is not a training issue. This is a judgement / temperament issue.

No one who would should a Labrador retriever in a parked car should carry a gun. EVER.

The cop who murdered Arfie belongs in jail not on the streets.

No law for cops. They can do whatever they want.

Welcome to the future. It ain't pretty.

Similarly, no woodchuck who would chuck wood should chuck said wood. EVER. Not even if Raul Labrador said it was okay.

Thing is the cops are never held accountable for crap like this.........
Now I'll probably be the first to say this but I love my dog...It would be very very hard for me not to want to shoot anyone who deliberately killed my dog...As some dogs just need killing so do some people.....
