Looking into doing some backpacking and was planning on purchasing a small coleman backpacking stove. Read up on an adapter you can use to refill the small "disposable" canisters off a larger propane tank. I'd prefer to do this as it would be more "green" and possibly cheaper.

What's the best place in town to refill a large propane canister? I hear Costco's a good place to buy a new tank.

While researching, I enjoyed seeing the various DIY alcohol stoves for ultra-light backpacking, although at this altitude, it might not be as feasible using alcohol stoves.

Aside: I just realized it takes forever, if ever, to now get my pressure cooker up to pressure on a gas range and in this altitude.

I hate to burst your bubble regarding the altitude, but Spokane (~2,000 ft) is NOT high-altitude. If the world is a stair case and the ground floor is sea level, Chicago is the first step and Spokane is the second. High altitude is typically thought of as anything higher than 5,000 ft. Alcohol stoves should work fine here, but might not work as well at the top of Mount Rainier (14,410 ft.).
