My husband and i are planning to relocate to Spokane. We're coming from Guam. How much money would be appropriate to move to Spokane? Atleast to hold us up for about 3 months till we find jobs. We'll be shipping our car there so thats outta the way..What we want is to find a decent apartment (not sure where in Spokane though) and start finding jobs there hoping its not as tough as Guam.. Jobs here are only good if you know someone!! We also have 2 kids and the whole reason for the move is for their Education ! I heard it snows alot there so hopefully we can get used to that. So anyone and everyones help would be appreciated. Another question, what places are nice in spokane but not so expensive to live in?!

Most of Spokane is livable and affordable, you shouldn't have a problem finding an apartment in a decent area.
I never had to look for a job in Spokane (but perhaps will someday
), but there is a slight element of avoidance when it comes to newcomers, but your mileage may vary.
My kid attended a Spokane public school for about a week. We thought it was very good, but they did have a strange rule about what he was allowed to bring to school for snacks.
People move from snowless to snowy areas every day. If you are willing to try and adjust, you may even like it.
What made you decide on Spokane?

the job market is BAAAAAD my dad had to look for months and months had several interviews in his field and ended up in a telemarketing job. wayyy below what he is used to money wise.

Airway Heights is good if you're new to the snow...and you don't mind being in the flight path of a tanker. (Quieter than the B-52s were!)

Tacoma has many Guamanians, more than anywhere in the State of Washington.

My husband lost two jobs in Spokane in a 18-month period, we lost our home and he couldn't find a decent job paying adequate money for a family. I think the economy in Spokane is terrible right now. The schools are great and personally I like the snow, but then I was raised as a kid in snow... Sorry but I am just being honest.. I wouldn't want anyone to go through what we went through in Spokane.

Even the health care industry has some major issues here right now. My husband is a very well educated /experienced trauma nurse and he's stuck at Deaconess (they just dropped their trauma certification & Sacred Heart/Holy Family is not hiring) who has been taken over by a for-profit company. It's been a rough 5 years for our family, here. We are relocating after the 1st of the year to an area with more opportunities and hopefully some more social contacts. The comment on "newcomer avoidance" in our experience has been spot on, as well. Either your from Spokane or your not....

Spokane was only an option because we know someone there. So ofcourse we have to do research of our own. What should we know before we get there? - are the people friendly? (we like to mind our own business) -OH! heres a good question...I wanna rent as soon as we get there but i hear that you have to have good credit? - how true is that?
