The first that popped into my mind was Jim Morris (baseball pitcher made famous by the movie "The Rookie"). He didn't have his MLB debut until he was 35.

Well, if you're talking about major league type athletic debut, there were a number of black baseball players who didn't "debut" until after age 30 due to segregation of the sport.

Greg Rallo debuted in the NHL at age 30 as center for the Florida Panthers.

I really gotta believe that in the long history of baseball with the thousands that have had at least one at bat in the majors that there have been quite a number that didn't do so until after age 30.

Of course, few have had the success that Jim Morris did.

Darren Bennett and Sav Rocca didn't make their NFL debuts until their 30's, as they were previously playing Australian football.

Also boxing and MMA are littered with guys who didn't make their pro debuts until after 30, but most of them are bums.

Good thread!

Like JohnBiggs, the only one I can come up with came from overseas.

Bobby Howfield was a rookie in the AFL at age 31, kicking 3 seasons for the Denver Broncos from 1968 to 1970. He was traded straight up for Jim Turner and kicked for the NY Jets for 3 more seasons. He previously was on a few English soccer clubs for over a decade.

Tim Thomas didn't make the NHL until he was 31, and has had a fine career thus far.

Sergei Makarov won the Calder Trophy (rookie of the year) at age 31, though he'd been playing in Russia previously.

Connie Madigan didn't debut in the NHL until age 38, though he only played parts of 3 seasons.

There's been probably two dozen hockey players to debut after 30, but it's fairly rare for any of them to stick around for any length of time.

Kurt Warner was 27 when he debuted for the Rams.

Rich Gannon was in his mid-20s when he first saw playing time for the Vikings.
