Many of the people on this thread think flopping "is a disgrace." But the guys who play soccer don't have padding. They can have really horrific injuries. Flopping is a smart way to set up chances to score...this is really important. IMO it also has the side effect of making the game a little safer and keeping people who would get too physical in their place.

OK if you're going to push or elbow or kick a player. Well think twice. Because he or she is going to overreact and you're going to put the team in jeopardy. The alternative would be a much more physical game (in terms of contact) and a lot more very bad sports injuries. There is a lot more finesse in the game, and you can't let it degenerate into pushing and shoving...not at the speeds that they are running.

Then it would be American Football. With all the injuries and stuff. And at some point it would be so dangerous that some j_rk would insist on putting padding all over the players nice bodies. Then there would be no reason for Kinkytoes to watch the game. Thanks for reading.

There is a difference between diving out of the way, diving to minimize impact and going for a dive like a sniper just shot you from the stands when you never got touched which is an absolute disgrace.

The thing I don't like about soccer is the idea of extra time. Why they just can't stop the clock for injuries? From watching American sports from an early age (I remember watching Bud Bowls during the super bowl in the early 90's and went to my first hockey game at age 7 and play is always called dead when a player is down. In soccer they run the clock and at some point they randomly decide oh we spent too much time so we will give this team who is down a goal or two to tie it up after 90 minutes pass. HELLO if you aren't tied after 90 minutes you either won or loss, no reason to give extra time.

Edit: I guess you can include floppers trying to get extra time or draw cards in this conversation.

They can yeah. Have some injury time for your injury time, so the injury time you lost because of injury time now you can have more injury time

for those comparing soccer flops to NFL, NBA - I see more flopping by soccer players in a half of soccer than I would an entire season of NFL or NBA....it's much more pervasive and common to the sport of soccer and emasculates the players - they really need to "man up" and play like they have a pair and very unsportsmanlike.

Flopping is as part of the game of soccer as grabbing your crouch, yelling at the ump or spitting tobacco is a part of the game of baseball.

It just would not be the same without it.
