This young lady is just AMAZING.

Has there ever been a more dominate performance in gymnastics?

Probably. It's nice to see a powerhouse type who is actually neat and has a diverse amount of skills. Still, it's hard to compare. Her power is beyond amazing, but the competition (aside from her own teammates) isn't what the field was 20 years ago.

The word is dominant, and so far Simone Biles has competed in only two events at one Olympic competition. It's hard to say if there has been "ever a better Olympics gymnastics athlete", because at the moment it is impossible to make any comparisons to gymnasts that have gone before her.

If she does win more medals this time, and earns more medals in future Olympics, then you can start the comparisons to Svetlana Khorkina, a Russian gymnast who competed in three Olympics and won seven medals; or to Soviet gymnasts Larisa Latynina or Ludmilla Tourescheva. And I believe there was a Soviet gymnast who won five or six medals in one single Olympic competition. You can look it up yourself.

Is Biles dominant in her sport at the moment? Yes, she is. But so far, not necessarily in Olympics competition.

I think it is going to be impossible to compare the last 10 yrs to anything before it. The difficulty score only came in in 2005 and comparing previous scores to current ones is now meaningless. Additionally, more and more difficult elements are becoming the norm. Look at the two vaults Biles needed to win gold, she has a near perfect amanar. A yuchenko was the closest equivalent in the prior time frame, and it was significantly less difficult.

The power and difficulty needed to medal or win the wc is going to significantly shorten the "prime" for women's gymnasts moving forward.

There used to be some very difficult but dangerous techniques. Those are banned now.

This is a sad thread. I wonder if you were talking about Mary Lou Retton - would you receive different responses?
