Shopping -- Get behind and push
 Hi Everyone,
We're putting our NY house back on the market this Thursday, and will be hopefully moving to the Wright county area soon. Would love to know where to find good bargains, for clothing, home furnishings, wood stoves, farm equipment, cable or satellite tv/internet service providers, best cell phone reception, etc. Places we've found already are: the local Walmarts in Mountain Grove and Ava, Mansfield Lumber, the Battlefield mall in Springfield (that place is huge), Bass Pro, Home Depot in Springfield. Are there any local Targets, or just in Springfield? Love our local Town & Country supermarket, and there are some great Mom and Pop restaurants...Estradas, The Wagon Wheel, Little House Buffet, etc. Bob Evans is our new fav. for breakfast. Any other recommendations of local supermarkets or restaurants? Any good ones in Hartville or Seymour? Heard that there are some good scratch and dent places, where you can find bargains on food items. We've located the local MFA, for some of our farming needs, but would like to find a price competitor. As far as cell phones, are Alltell and AT&T the same entity? There are so many mergers these days, it's hard to keep up.
How about entertainment? Any good local places to hear music? Open to all kinds of music, but love folk music and the blues. Not really into the club scene or large concert venues, except to hear someone from the 70s, lol. Yeah, I'm old.
Also, does anyone know of any good veterinarians in the area. Have two dogs and two cats. Thanks.

Tambre, I have only a couple of ideas that might be useful. I love shopping at Aldis ALDI - Home page It has it's own brands, only take cash or debit card and you sack your own groceries. I find I can save about $60 a week if I shop there. They don't have everything I need weekly plus I don't care for their meat, so I have to go somewhere else too - which is aggravating. Still it's a good stock-up place. Here is a link w/ local store locations: ALDI USA=
Race Brothers in Springfield is a good farm supply store: RaceBrothers
I also like Bills Farm and Home in Lebanon: Bill's Farm & Home - Live Search Local
That's all I can come up with right now.

Silvermouse,
It's funny, but we have Aldi's Supermarkets here in NY, but I've never gone to one. Thanks for the info. on the farm supply places, too.

Genesis clothng on the square in Mtn Grove is a super great place to go for clothing at real good prices.
I have found that I get the best reception from alltel on my phone.
Depending on where you are at for internet, if you are looking for satalite I would go with hughes net but if you are within distance you could go with century tel.
Hope everything goes great for you.

Hi Scrapbook Princess,
Thanks so much for the information and the well wishes. Next time we go out to visit, I'll have to check out these places/services. If you're in the area, hope you faired the recent storms without any damage.

There is a huge dented can grocery store in Cabool called Shetlers. They also have stores in Norwood and Seymour. They have great deals on all sorts of things, including higher-end food. Grocery store, bulk food, frozen food. Cabool, MO
Alltell and US Cellular seem to be the popular cell carriers in that part of the world. I have Sprint, and the reception really stinks in that area.

Thanks OA! Shetlers looks like a good place to find a bargain, and there are two pretty close by to Mansfield. Two votes for Alltell so far.

You know what would be great? Instead of one big ole huge mall in Springfield, how about moderate malls dotting the Ozarks? Wouldn't that be wonderful? Then every town could have an Orange Julius.

But malls don't attract Trader Joe's so what's the point?
By the way, re: the s***kicker comment in another thread. I was a real one, thank you very much; an actual cowboy. Worked the remaining 40,000 acres of the original 200,000 acre cattle ranch with about 5,000 head of cattle we ran - down from 15,000.
That's what happens when modernization, urban sprawl, development and "civilization" encroach on natural areas.

I second the Shetlers comment...they are great! Like a treasure hunt. I often find canned organic foods and baking supplies. Their produce is waay cheaper. Great prices on frozen food too. Just check your expiration dates. Mansfield, Hartville, Mtn. Grove, and Cabool all have crisis thrift stores. Great places to find bargains. Cozumel's in Mountain Grove is pretty good for Mexican food.
