My 11 year old daughter has asperger's syndrome. I had a support group and several advocacy resources in Fayetteville, AR. I assumed a town the size of Springfield would have the same, or more. However, I haven't been able to find very many resources.
I found the school, Rivendale, but that's it. Am I looking in the wrong places?
I would like to find a good private school. (I'll post another thread about this). I looked into Rivendale, but my daughter is ready to be mainstreamed and I don't think she needs Rivendale, it's also very expensive.
I'm also interested in starting a support group if none exists. I also have an idea about starting a children's theatre group for asperger's kids, maybe expand to other special needs. Is anyone familiar with the local theatre groups? Is anyone doing a kids or special needs program?
Thanks for any help.

Thank you. I was beginning to think there wasn't anything here at all. This site is very helpful.

One of my best friends has a 7 year with Autism/Asperger's and she specifically moved to Nixa school district for him. She also works within Special Ed. at Nixa. I will ask her about support groups and anything else that she can share with me and I will let you know.

I do know that she thinks a lot of Nixa schools and how they have worked with her son, though.

I have a husband with asperger syndrome. Is there anyone else in the Springfield area that is struggling in their marriage and needs a friend that understands.
