Why Did You Feel The Need To Capitalize The First Letter Of Every Word?

I have heard a couple of bad ones, but I'm a firm believer in not saying anything about neighborhoods I've never been in.

I'm really just a smart aleck...

And I'm kind of offended by this whole thread. Cyber slumming is kind of lame if you ask me.

Not hard to find the opinions you want. Just browse the comments of any Post-Dispatch articles about the city.

Sorry if I came off harsh. Folks do that over on the Chicago forum all the time and it's obnoxious.

Many, many north side neighborhoods. In south city, Dutchtown comes to mind. I wasn't familiar with the neighborhood and found the perfect house for my family...then got home and looked up the crime stats.

Dutchtown really isnt that bad. Keep in mind it is the largest neighborhood in sq footage so some areas in Dutchtown may be sketchy others are just fine.

I came across this website a while back where someone had photo-documented North St. Louis as a sort of study in urban decay, complete with historical and architectural commentary. You have to page through the photographs of each neighborhood one at a time, but it gives a sense of the physical disintegration of some of the neighborhoods there. The neighborhoods featured include a few that have very high crime rates, and are therefore (arguably) the most dangerous. There are also some pockets that are well kept, with buildings that cannot be replaced today in terms of the material quality and craftsmanship, making this something of a guide for people interested in preservation and rehabbing of historic buidings.
