St. Louis is also the #1 city for smokers.
Just about everything you hear about St. Louis is negative, the media wants the general US to overlook St. Louis's positive and growing attributes, like forest park, kirkwood, varying terrain and old towns and other good things

I'm sure this article is talking about the entire metro area, since it include excellent universities, like Washington University in St. Louis. Most of the suburban schools are excellent, and there is a wide array of private schools. Also, I think I recently heard that a majority of the children in the city of St. Louis now attend Charter schools rather than the old public schools.
