If we find a manual Forester (as no more Outbacks are manual) & its a leftover '16, or brand new 17, what's the best way to avoid the hit of initial depreciate? Here's why, in my day ALWAYS a loss on new cars-- but Subaru resale $ holds tight even yrs later. I want a 6speed manual ONLY (prolly a 4 cylinder ) & its like needle in stack to find it.

So, go used like 2015 or -- go newer & take how much%? depreciation? What's best deal?? Thx.

New car depreciation is definitely not as big of a worry on a Subaru. Especially considering how easy it is to get one 2% below invoice if you join one of their partner programs with various outdoor organizations.

Leftover 16 vs a used 15 you're not going to save very much money at all going used and you'll lose warranty coverage for it. All comes down to the individual cars you find of course though.

How long will you keep it? If more than 4 or 5 years any initial depreciation means just about nothing. That's true for any vehicle, except maybe Germans their value drop like rocks.

Would keep it 4-5 yrs for sure. I think a brand new '17 manual, 6speed, Forester will be our choice if we buy. Now for the $ & cents, hahaa.

The best way is to get a good deal on the car when you buy it.

If you go over to the subaru forester forums there is probably a long thread about what people are paying for these cars. The gist of it is going to be something below invoice price by around 3 to 5% (generally). Go to www.truecar.com and price out the car, it will show you the invoice price.

There are not likely to be 2016s left over as 2018s are coming out soon. Where do you live? There are plenty of dealers who will drive 2+ hours to you to deliver a car to your door for your business. Finding one should really be a non-issue if you look a little beyond your immediate area. There is no real need for you to ever step foot in a dealership although buying locally can sometimes give you some benefits like a few free oil changes or inspections.

By the way, the 6spd forester is a great choice and a rarity in this day from any car manufacturer, but Subaru makes plenty of them . I had to concede to an CVT Outback for the bigger size.
