Is exogenous Glutamine helpful in reducing colon cancer risk? Mom died of it yr ago, so wondered if I should add it to the diet via supplement form?

Colon and rectal cancer screening

The best thing you can do is begin screening at about ten years younger than the earliest age of family members with colon cancer.

Q, I'm 56 & had colon scoped in '07. at 47 yrs old. Bu don't have insurance to cover now. Wanted to use Glutamine supplements as their found to be a protective substance vs cancer. You agree?

You still need to get screened. It is unreasonable to expect any supplement to be 100% effective, especially when you talk about preventing cancer.

You can talk to your doctor about other options than colonoscopy. Just realize that the scope is the gold standard, and if any of the other methods are positive, you then need to be scoped anyway.

It has been recommended that one take calcium supplements to prevent colon cancer.

Those "screening" probes have been known to pierce the intestine and to cause death.

Complications can occur due to colonscopy but they are uncommon. Just taking calcium will not insure against getting colon cancer. Removing pre-cancerous polyps can indeed prevent invasive colon cancer.
