I've been taking Vitamin D (4000IU's) and zinc (35mg.) daily for a year now which, if you believe the propaganda, are supposed to be fool-proof in protecting you against the flu and colds. Baloney! I'm suffering through the worst upper and lower respiratory tract infections I can remember. Just a friendly warning: do NOT count on this stuff to protect you.

I'm sorry that someone fooled you but synthetic vitamin D will not do squat for your immune system, especially if it's in isolated form.
There is precisely why I have recommended Cod Liver Oil and butterfat ONLY for vitamin D supplementation. Everything else is crap.
There is another reason why I have always said on this board that taking isolated vitamins are not good for your health, it can actually do more damage then good. Supplemenation should come from superfoods only, where all vitamins are given to you as mother nature intended and they all work in synergy together. Taking isolated synthetic vitamin will not protect your immune system.
Where's the Vitamin C? Lots of people take it to prevent colds and flu.
Yeah, I take about 2000 mg. daily in 2 or 3 doses---have for the last ten years. You name it, I take it! Coq10 600mg. pharmaceutical grade stuff; acetyl-l carnitine 2500 mg. in 2 doses; cal. mag. zinc potass. Vit. d twice daily; greens mixed with fresh juiced carrots; taurine & ribose for energy; vit b & NAC; lots more

Everything I take is natural---vitamin D3 is from cholecalciferol, that's what all the doc's and naturopaths say to take. Cod oil is dangerous because of toxicity pro-vitamin a overdose; pounding headaches and destroy your immune system if it doesn't kill you first.
Taking vitamins to boost your immune system won't do anything if you don't wash our hands often and touch your face often.
Yes, it's the most common sense thing to do although one doesn't have to constantly wash the hands as long as one is trained not to make hand contact with the face.
Keep hands away from face, ie; eyes, nose and mouth.
I've been doing this for so long it's second nature ... body memory.
My hands just don't go near my face when i'm out and about and i wash my hands as soon as i get home.
I also have some hand sanitizer in my car so after shopping (for example) i get back into my car and using the hand sanitizer is second nature as well.
And Thrillobite., i'm fairly sure that cod liver oil used correctly is not "dangerous" and is an excellent source of both D and A.
But Max's Mama can elaborate on the danger factor ... i think it was Max's Mama that clarified this for me recently but i could be mixing her up with someone else.

I don't know what naturopaths suggested isolated D from cholecalciferol, but it's not natural. Is it food? No. Therefore, it's man-made.
And the CLO being dangerous is another quack.
There is only 1000 tp 2000 IU of Vitamin D in CLO which is less then what you take. Additionally, vit. A and D balance each other out in CLO. If taken properly and not overdoing, it can do wonders to your immune system. It should only be taken in winter months (IMO), not through out the entire year.

Yes, I completely agree.
I think enhancing the immune system and protecting your body from viruses is a lot more then just popping 2 supplements a day. All nutrients need to work in conjuction and synergy with each other. The body needs to build up resistance not just with vitamin D and zinc, all other nutrients and minerals are just as important.
