You are coming from Nashville right? Nob Hill could work, as there is a bus route that goes to and from campus, just in case. You wouldn't be in a walkable area, but you would be a short drive from shopping, bars, restaurants and parks.
You may be able to find something in the Westcott neighborhood, which has restaurants, cafés, bars and parks you could walk to.
There is a small possibility that you could find something Downtown, if you can go up a little bit in terms of rent. She could possibly take the Connective Corridor Bus to and from campus.
I would also contact Off Campus and Commuter Services at SU as well.
