Thank you for the link!

I don't know why Rochester is lower rated with a higher risk of natural disasters. The only thing I can think of is if there is a tusnami coming ashore from Lake Ontario. That is a possibility but would be very rare.

That can't be the reason though since Chicago, Cleveland and Buffalo are on a Great Lake but are raked high on the list. So I have no idea.

If anyone can find a list of safest Metropolitan Areas in the US that includes crime rates, climate change risk, dam failure risk, sea level rise, and air quality from pollution/forest fires, please share it.

I'm researching safest metropolitan areas over 500,000 in population with these factors included and I'd like to see if I'm missing anything.

Most of upstate NY is less prone to major natural disasters.
Flooding is probably the biggest threat.
Personally, I don’t consider “feet” of snow or ice storms natural disasters.
Stay home, stay off the roads during these events, and you’ll be fine.
I say this because it’s a stigma attached to upstate, that Nov-March is non stop snowpocalypse. Especially when you are having an argument with ex-yanks living down south and discussing hurricanes, tropical storms, tornadoes, floods, etc…lol

I tried to find the safest Metropolitan Areas over 500,000 in the south with all my added factors including crime rate but almost all of them ranked below the safest top 10 metropolitan areas in the north.

Safest southern metropolitan areas over 500,000 from natural disasters, climate change, pollution, and crime.

This is from my own research. It is partly subjective based on what factors are valued most.

El Paso, Texas
Lexington, KY
Nashville, TN
Greenville, SC
Austin, TX

Asheville, NC was just below the population threshold or it would be on the list.
