I hate to joke about this stuff, but could be worse. If you had brought your wife to a Utica / Mohawk Valley area hosptial (Faxton-St Lukes or Bassett), they probably would have amputated a foot or removed a kidney or something.

ANY of the Syracuse area hospitals are in a completely different league - in a good way - than ANY of the Utica area Hospitals and Basset.

My parents have strict orders that, if anything happens to me while I am at their house, they are to drive me to a Syracuse hospital. I REFUSE to be mistreated and misdiagnosed at Faxton-St Lukes, St. Elizabeth's or any Bassett facility.

I have no experience with Rome's hospital. Bassett really is that bad.

- They physically misplaced my mother during surgery for ~6 hours
- Another relative of mine was diagnosed with diabetes and put on insulin. After other issues started to show up, he went to another doctor that was not part of Bassett and found out he did not have diabetes and was not pre-diabetic.
- One of their doctors (this was early 00s) was diagnosing all of her patients with Kidney failure and giving them medications and dialysis for kidney failure. Guess what - none of them had it. She was sued for malpractice and eventually lost her license to practice. One of my family members was misdiagnosed with kidney failure

There are a lot of other stories of them doing a very very very poor job.
