Planning to buy an iPad (not pro or air). Not sure if it's worth to spend more on AppleCare for possible problems. I think it covers 2 years. Is it worth? (how likely will it be used?)
For the entry level iPad I wouldn't. Over the past 10 years I've broken exactly 1 iPad out of probably 6-7 I've had. Keep in mind you're paying $49 for each service in addition to the $69 up front cost.
If you're clumsy or tend to drop and break things then maybe, but it's a pretty big premium. Figure that if you didn't break it after 2 years you'd probably want to upgrade anyway, and that money could go towards a new one.
Thank you both. Good to know. I'm not worried about physically dropping/breaking. I get warranty for my computers for hardware failures. I suppose iPads are much less likely to have such troubles?
I have yet to see an iPad with a hardware failure, though I am sure it has happened to some. My 9 year old iPad 2 still works. I get cheap protective cases instead of expensive Apple Care.
People upgrade those way less frequently then they do phones. They last forever.
Now at least. Back when the first versions came out they got obsolete pretty fast, just like the first iPhones.
I’m probably an outlier as I use my iPad more than I use my iPhone. But my 2018 11” iPad Pro is still going strong and I doubt I’ll upgrade until I see what comes out next year and feel it’s worth it.

Ditto. OP, get a $10 case on Amazon and that should suffice. Something that protects the back from scratches and gives a bit of a lip for the corners.
Do you think Apple sells this warranty/service contract expecting to lose money on it?
Is the cost of the Ipad so high that having to replace it will adversely affect your personal finances for years to come, the same way that - say, having to pay cash for a heart transplant would, or having to pay cash to replace your house if it burned down? Or would it be a minor inconvenience?
I think if you can answer these two questions you will have the answer.
Almost all after-purchase extended warranties are a huge profit center for the retailer/manufacturer, and most consumer advocates advise against the purchase of them. They are available for practically everything! From automobiles to kitchen appliances to computers. Doesn't some credit card companies double the basic manufacturer's warranty?
