Do I just leave the couch by a dumpster or is there someplace I am supposed to put it? I have driven by and seen couches people just left on the road but I dont know if that's what you are supposed to do and expect the trash people to take it.

If it is in decent condition, donate it to Goodwill or some other similar organization. That is what I do.

Many people leave items on the curb.. usually someone will drive by and grab it within minutes.

If you don't think it's in good enough condition for someone to pick up, you can call the city and they will pick it up for free. (In St. Pete, anyway... not sure where you are.)

Son in law put a good bathroom vanity at the curb with a "FREE" sign and no one took it for 2 days. He put another sign on it "$25" and then sold it in 4 hours. Go figure.

Try donating, many charities have furniture banks and will pick up.

Salvation Army picked up a bunch of extra furniture we wanted to get rid of after we moved here. We called, they came in a few days and got it.

I'll put items that I don't want but think people may be able to use on my curb and put a CURB ALERT on Craigslist under the Free section.

If you could take it to the Sarasota area I hear that you can just dump all your trash on the curbside and leave it there.
