Understand that I am not being critical, just pointing out the reality of what the market consists of here.

Tampa, and for that matter, Florida, has little or no manufacturing. The economy is built around the service industries primarily.

Be careful MortonR........there are a few people on this forum who will get really defensive if you say things like that......

They will post all sorts of internet links that supposedly prove otherwise........and claim that you are just a "complainer" who "can't make it down here"....ect, ect...

I'm sure they will be here soon.......

Yeah, not too much going on in manufacturing.

Partly, you need a little bit of luck like being on the right place at the right time. In my agency some people really advanced quite a bit in the last year or so when others left or retire. Getting your foot may be the key.

But make no mistake the competition would be stiff. For example, in our agency some of the openings are getting applications in hundreds. Amazing how many people wants to move here.......!

This!

And this applies to just about everywhere in the country as well.

This.......pretty much!

While the job market here is not nearly as bad as some people claim, IMO, it is still not hitting on all cylinders. We are gaining power though, so that is very good.

This!

Getting your resume in front of as many as possible can only help.

Timing matters!

This is why networking is so incredibly important. You need to be known, so when something comes up you might be thought of. Many jobs don't ever make it to print/online. You need to be thought of, before it is posted.

Yep!

Sometimes taking a job you may not have been looking for is worth while, if it gets you into the company you want to work for. Then at least they can see your skills first hand....and who knows from there.

Yep!

Which is the case just about everywhere in the country. While we are certainly getting better, we are not totally back yet.

When asked why I wished to go for another 4 year degree rather than pursue my MBA, I responded, "because the business field is too broad. I can't find a job in management with a 4 year degree. I have friends with MBAs who also cannot find jobs. IT or healthcare will always need knowledgable, well trained employees." I hope you can find something down here. Unfortunately it seems once you quit the company in which you've climbed the ladder, it is difficult to transition to a new one easily. You may have to start at the bottom again or pursue a different degree.
What kind of program are you looking at for cyber security, I hear all the hype about how is going to be one of the hottest fields, the couple of people that I know that work for vendors that my company deals with, have computer science degrees and cisco IT security certs. I am almost done with my MBA, I was looking into that field as the next thing. I was just wondering what that program you are considering especially since you are a business major, my undergrad is in engineering i would be hesitant to go into a MS in computer science.

It is actually a degree in cyber security. You also, of course, get all of your certifications along the line as you go toward your bachelor.

Quote the statistics, but when you look at manufacturing as a part of the whole, it's a very small percentage compared to other states.

In Florida there are 6,626,558 employed in non-farm jobs according to the 2010 census. That makes manufacturing jobs less than 5% of the total workforce. Pretty small piece of the pie, no matter how you cut it.
