I have always wondered what could have bit me but while getting something from my crawlspace in Florida, I was bitten on the ankle. Later I had this intense pain sort of like my ankle was fractured, after that, had swelling up to my knee for about 3 days. That was about 20 years ago and I still have a very light scar from the very small bite.
Had no insurance so didn't go to the dr but noticed the scar the other day and am curious if
anybody knows what could have bit me?

I don't know what bit you, but about 20 years ago I was up a tree trimming branches and I was bitten on my hand. It swelled up like a catchers mitt. I never saw what bit me, but the hospital said it was a spider bite. About a year or so later I went to the hospital to discover why my face was swollen and eyes shut. I thought it was an allergic reaction. The hospital told me I was right....a reaction to a spider bite.

My cousin was a pest control technician in rural Virginia and had a very similar experience to the OP and he was bit by a brown recluse while dealing with a pest control problem in a crawl space.

Not sure if they have them in Florida but might be a consideration.

Thanks, I thought it must have been a brown recluse, black widow or maybe even a scorpion. Thought it had to be something very bad to get that reaction and just wondering if anybody else had those symptoms after getting bit by something. At first it just itched, then about 20 min later the pain started like I broke my ankle. Really weird, I had just moved to Florida and was exhausted. Went to sleep and woke up the next morning thankful I was still alive, lol.

If the pain started within 20 minutes it was most likely a black widow. Brown recluse bites take a couple hours before the pain starts and the skin around the bite can literally start to rot or turn black/brown. Did you have chest pains?

I can't remember but don't think I did, which one would have caused that?

It's one of the symptoms of a black widow bite.
