Knew the area back when I went to USF....it was a bad area back then....and now I still believe it's about the same. Wouldn't recommend walking alone there.

I used to go to the area all the time while I was in High School.. The mall used to irritate me as the air conditioner was always broken..

I didn't think the area was horrible. This was the late 90's for me..

It isn't good IMO although it has been a few years. I delivered Meals on Wheels in that area and I must say I would never walk anywhere in that area especially at night. You probably would be OK during the day but even a few years ago there were a lot of robberies at the mall during the day.

It's ghetto as hell, like it's been for going on 30 years. They dont call the area Suitcase City for nothing.

when I think of the mall area, the term "hood" comes to mind. I would also make a comment about the type of people that seem most dominate in the area, but it would be considered a racist statement, even though I think it's the truth.

It's worst the further South you go from fowler, but it's still pretty terrible between bearss and fowler. That's part of the giant no-man's land known as North Tampa/Suitcase City

I dont think that racism would come to mind. I am not from here and when I moved here to Tampa , I must say that ghetto comes in all races here. The same applies for suitcase city.

Thats not to slam the whole area, just certain pockets are of a high ghetto concentration.

University Mall itself is okay, but the area itself hasn't changed.
