Hello, all. Last weekend we went to the Neighborhood Halloween Party and last night we went to a going away party for our neighbors, who had rented here and wanted to buy, but the owner wouldn't sell, so they bought a house elsewhere. So as we were saying our farewells the well-traveled guests of honor talked about how unique our neighborhood is and how rare it is to find a welcoming place that has neighborhood parties at least once a month. (We celebrate birthdays, holidays, life events, etc.) This got me wondering, is this really such a rarity or are there lots of neighborhoods like ours in the Tampa Bay area? Thanks in advance for your input.

That sounds like a pretty unique neighborhood. In some communities I've lived in the neighbors don't even seem to talk to each other. One neighborhood I lived in growing up the guy at the end of the street was always mowing his lawn or doing lawn work whenever i drove by he would give me this horrible stare like he was mad at me.

That is exteremly unique, we moved to Fl just over 4 months ago into a decent neighborhood with HOA. We dont have a pool or clubhouse though. After four months we have barely even seen anyone outside and have only talked to our direct neighbors a handful of times. I will say on Halloween I was so excited because hundreds of people were out and about and I loved handing out candy. People towing flatbeds with bails of hay and families piled in on lawn chairs. It was the first sense of community I have felt since moving in.

We have block parties and every so often a "meetup at driveway x" get-togethers. We are a really small loop (about 65 homes) within a larger community and just do things just in our little area.

VERY unique!

We had something similar growing up in Miami; however it slowly (as kids grew up and moved out), became very quiet.

We haven't yet found a similar neighborhood in Tampa.

We prefer to just wave hello, however there are groups of people who hang out more (the ones with kids). There was a halloween block party though. Not sure how many attended.

I actually have experienced the opposite. My next door neighbor, whom I had never met, actually called the police on us because my pool filter motor was too loud!!!! They didn't even have the courtesy to come over and talk to me about it!!!

We had new residents move in across the street and they had a house warming party and everyone on the block was invited; we were the only family to show up!!!!! We consider ourselves friendly, outgoing, and good neighbors.

This is a gated community on a golf course and they are snobbby, elite, and rude. We are planning on moving from this area for this very reason.

Consider yourself blessed SunnyDee!!

Unfortunately the main reason for which Florida/Tampa has been "blessed" with so many snotts, is because he majority of those moving here were snotts prior to moving here, so not folks involved in their communities, who have this notion that they "arrived"; hence the lack of interest in making new friends, being neighborly etc. Social media is not helping this as folks be rather "keep in touch" online, and forgot how much fun it is to be with people LIVE!

They're all hiding in their new found "open concept" living/dining/kitchens, and spend time enjoying their granite counters and stainless appliances rather than be friendly!
It's sad really.
