Nevada seems to be doing pretty well - not seeing major psychological effects on the women there - at least the news doesn't seem like they're going postal, shooting up movie theaters and whatnot.

So since prostitutes aren't resorting to violent crime you think that their profession isn't having a psychological effect on them?

you pretty well summed it up - in fact they're receiving exceptional health care, vacation time, bonuses, a 401k plan, flexible hours, and best of all, they're FREE TO DECIDE FOR THEMSELVES HOW THEY TREAT THEIR OWN BODIES -rather than allowing the gov't to do so. Some do it on the side for a few additional dollars - while maintaining other careers.

Does anyone know what will happen with the government support. Will that be taken away after they get convicted or is that an entitlement that criminals can keep?
It is taken away and they don't have to be convicted of doing anything as long as they have proof they are using the food stamps as money.

I know someone who was buying cigarettes from a mom and pop store with food stamps. When they busted the store they took away his food stamps and he can not get them back.

I was unable to load your link from GWU, but I would be interested in reading if I can find another link.

I really doubt legalizing prostitution will have such a rosy outcome that you describe. You're taking a rather simplistic view of a horrible industry. The women you are referring to with great benefits and pay are on the opposite end of the spectrum for most prostitutes.

You are so right!

It helps in a certain way but checking them out for diseases is not a guarantee to be safe for the customer.

Do you really think they pay taxes on every deal?

There is a lot of trafficking going on in prostitution and nasty pimps, etc. Usually a lot of them are on drugs and that way it usually is related to more crime.

If 2 people want sex and consent to pay for it than that may be their business but usually it will harm many others. First of all they should have a job to pay for it themselves and not from hard working peoples tax money!

Anyone know, if during the arrest turmoil, they happened to mention what the going rates were??? Just sayin..
Do you not understand that these "prostitutes" were pulled from Backpage and craigslist which are notorious hubs for human trafficking...specifically trafficking of minors and runaways? You may be living in a fantasy if you think these are just grown women working a full time job by day and just trying to make a little extra cash on their own by night.
Florida is one of the worst places in our country for human trafficking...and human trafficking, or "prostitution" if you feel better saying that, is the-#1-crime-in-the-WORLD and growing faster and larger than the drug trade on an international scale. Human trafficking and the drug trade are closely correlated and therefore, so are heinous crimes such as murder, domestic abuse (again, these are often MINORS also), violence, illegal weapon use, etc.
Even if you think these women and children somehow agree or "consent" to this lifestyle, it's often under forced heavy drug use and fear for their lives.

Your cheeky comments about lack of "freedoms" and the "going rates" are entirely offensive because you obviously are out of touch with the serious problem and danger to people's lives and their well being that exists in OUR communities, because of both the johns and the violent criminals or "pimps" that are behind the trafficked "prostitutes". Do your research, because this could easily be your sister, daughter, niece or someone you know.

I think crime will decrease with legalized prostitution. More men will be happy that aren't getting any sex and more women will have more money to spend to help the economy

If you bring it out of the dark corners and make it legally regulated then you wont have the human trafficking. The countries that struggle with human trafficking are countries who have zero tolerance for prostitution.

I personally dont believe it is the governments place to tell people what they can and cant do with their bodies as long as it is not directly impeding anothers way of life.

I have lived in countries where prostitution (if you call it that) is regulated and controlled and it is very discreet and unless you wanted to visit the store you wouldnt know it existed. I have no problems with that.

Ps. get off your high horse
