True, Quicken is in Detroit but the head hunter told me they were open to remote.

This is good news since I work for a company that is owned by the investment firm that owns Quicken Loans as well. Thanks for the info.

Rock Ventures is also owned by the Founder of quicken loans. In other words Dan Gilbert is still owner. He formed Rock Ventures witch he put quicken under its umbrella.

I have degrees in architecture and construction management, but I have several years doing structural engineering work, and presently am a PM/Estimator for a mechanical contractor for water and heavy industry.

THESE KINDS OF JOBS PAY ABSOLUTE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL HERE.

You can literally double your pay elsewhere, doing the same exact kind of work.

I myself am soon relocating out of state, specifically to pursue job offers out west paying nearly double.

And like others have mentioned, count on most job offers being for contract/project work, even if they tell you it's permanent. It's pretty common for people to get hired for a project, and then get let go right at the end, just before the company is due to pay them completion bonuses and such.

If you work here, you have to document EVERYTHING you do, so at least that way when you get screwed, you have the documents your lawyer will need to sue for back pay.

We too are looking for jobs in Tampa. My friend is a 20+ year Senior Network Engineer and I'm an accountant. Obviously I don't live there but I've done a lot of research and reading. Health care seems to be a big part of the economy in Central Florida. Is your wife experienced at all in medical chemistry? Have you looked through any of the government job listings? I know, not very helpful.

My friend is now looking at doing contract work there just to get a foothold and then I can find a job. With your training I'm sure something will come along.

I have seen a lot more engineering related job postings since the holidays are over. It doesn't look I would have an issue finding a job in the area.
