We will be relocating to Tampa in summer 2018. We have 2 sons, who will be rising Junior and Sophomore. I am looking at private school options but not finding a lot of reviews on the schools in the area. I do not want a religious based school. So we are thinking Shorecrest or Tampa Prep or Admiral. Would anyone be able to discuss admissions difficulties and reputations for these schools? Thank you!

Lol, I always said private schools have some of the worst kids, and I went to private school (Incarnation).
When bad kids are expelled from public school then private is one of the only options.

OP, you may want to consider Berkley Prep in Tampa/ Town n Country. Its one of the better private schools in the area.

Berkeley Prep struggles with "affluenza" but I will say they do everything in their power to get their special snowflakes into the best colleges...

KPB, thanks for the suggestion.

My youngest is gifted and very bright so we definitely want a challenging curriculum. My oldest is wanting to follow his father's footsteps and join the Armybut I still want him to keep his options open in case he does decide to go to college first. We aren't affluent- we are lucky enough to have access to funding for their school. We are more solidly middle class with some comfort

We prefer to live close to the beach but the schools are only so so there so it seems like private school would remove the school zoning constraints.

Shorecrest isn't bad. There are kids from wealthy families who have a lot but not all. The curriculum is challenging with lots of AP class choices.

I understand you wanting the best for your kids and respect that. I have no kids but my sister has 2 at Lakeland Christian, she's not very well off either but somehow finds a way to pay the $2k a month tuition.
There is a very good public school district in Tampa that if you live in they will attend Mitchell Elem, Wilson Jr High, and Plant High. All A rated schools and have been for as long as I can remember.
