Most of this is happening in Seminole Heights, Tampa Heights, Downtown Tampa, etc.
None of this is happening in West Tampa.
West Tampa will not be appearing in any "top hipster neighborhoods in America" lists anytime soon.

As far as Pilsen, I was last there in 2013 I believe, walked up and down 18th Street, and it was pretty scary. But the best tacos ever!
I do agree, but that would be my definition of a completely "gentrified neighborhood".

I have been to Seminole Heights before, glad to know it's improving.

East Pilsen has changed drastically since 2013, although west of Ashland (West Pilsen) is still a very shady area.Yes amazing food there, i love those delicious tacos!

Actually it is happening in West Tampa (i.e. rollin oats grocery store). What you are describing is full and complete gentrification (i.e. south Tampa) not gentrifying. Gentrifying is a slow process. But I'm not here to argue or to convince you otherwise.

I agree ^^. I also do not think full gentrification is a good thing - it ruins the character of an area and drives out all the small mom-and-pop businesses. I like an area that feels reasonably safe, but still has entrepreneurs, cool shops, indie markets, etc. That is what I like about Central Ave in St. Pete. I hope it doesn't get ruined by too much "gentrification."

What I am describing is not complete gentrification. What I am describing is the beginning of gentrification. Complete gentrification is what Hyde Park looks like. West Tampa is not even in the beginning stages of this. Seminole Heights, Tampa Heights are in the very beginning stages of this, but they still have decades to go to get anywhere near where Hyde Park is.

In addition, Rollin Oats is not in the West Tampa district as determined by the city. For a map of the boundaries, please visit:

If you visit their website, Rollin Oats calls that location its "South Tampa location". Rollin Oats does not want its store associated with West Tampa even on its website! Not a good sign for West Tampa's gentrification hopes, if you ask me!

To be honest no one outside of Tampa knows about South Tampa or Hyde Park. I grew up in Orlando and Miami, never heard of South Tampa till I moved here. All people know is Busch Gardens, Bucs, Ybor, Strip Clubs, and Gulf Beaches. Is Hyde Park a goal of other neighborhoods to reach?

Ha Ha Ha! Now that's a can of worms if I've ever seen one! I'll let others answer that question.
