Does the area around USF have an urban or even "semi-urban" feel to it? Semi-urban meaning like an edge city.

The area around USF has a dilapidated suburban feel. Like a suburb that is poor, working class. It is not an edge city. Examples of edge cities in this area would be Brandon, Largo, etc.

Tampa campus. Is St. Petersburg campus more "urban"?

St. Pete campus is tightly integrated with the downtown area and waterfront.

The Tampa campus legit feels like they planted a university there and then said, "Crap, we need to put something else here!" and then a few shops that may or may not attract college students went in. It's a very strange area, and one that really has no vibe to it oncesoever. That should change when the mall is finally redone and Mark Sharpe's vision takes over, but until then...

I think St Pete campus has better area for sure. Downtown vibe, waterfront, entertainment, very pretty location.
Not sure what classes they offer over Tampa campus - it may not be practical for you

That is the biggest problem with USF's satellite locations. They don't offer nearly as many classes as the Tampa location.

When my daughter was choosing a college (we are from PA) - we toured a number of universities. When we flew into Tampa, we never imagined she would like USF Tampa. She fell instantly in love with it. We toured the other two campuses and they didn’t compare. We even headed down to FGCU (Fort Myers). Nope, she applied to USF Tampa, was accepted and starts this August. So I know the university is like someone dropped it in the middle of no where but the college itself was a perfect fit.

It's much better in terms of student housing now than it was 10 years ago.

Now they have excellent modern student housing options on campus, where in the past those didn't exist. Same with the Marshall Center. The renovation in the late 2000s made it a totally different place from what it had been.
